Sparking the Imagination – April 2011
On Friday, 8th April 2011 an event to celebrate the work done by four primary schools in North Belfast – Holy Cross Girls, Wheatfield, Holy Cross Boys and Mercy Primay, was organised to give the children and their teachers the opportunity to show some of their work on the theme language and literacy. The event was held in the University of Ulster, Jordanstown campus and included the screening of some short films made by the children and was followed by a rhyming performance from each school. The Vice Chancellor, Richard Barnett welcomed everyone and thanked the Flax Trust for their sponsorship of this project in North Belfast.
The University of Ulster’s ‘Sparking the Imagination’ programme is now in its fourth year. The project comprises a range of interactive and creative activities designed to offer children, teachers and parents alternative teaching and learning experiences within the framework of the revised curriculum. The activities, each spanning 12 weeks, are led by external specialists. These have included things like art, physical development and music, with the second year of the project taking more of a language and literacy focus.
