The Flax Trust Music Bursaries to Young Musicians of the Future / Camerata-Ireland August 20th, 2019
On Tuesday 20th August 2019 Flax Trust awarded two Bursaries of £1,000 each at Camerata-Ireland’s ‘Young Musicians of the Future’ Clandeboye Festival. The recipients of the bursaries and performance opportunities were Tom Myles, clarinet and Phoebe White, violin.
Tom Myles. Clarinettist Tom Myles, from Ballygowan, was on of the Woodwind Category Finalists in the BBC Young Musician competition. He is in his fourth year of membership with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, spending two years as principal clarinet. Prior to this he was a Leverhulme Scholarship member of the National Children’s Orchestra (NCO). As well as performing throughout the UK with NCO and NYO, including four BBC Proms, Tom played at last year’s ‘Latitude’ festival in Suffolk, appearing on the ‘BBC Music Introducing’ stage and later this year is performing as a soloist with the Ulster Orchestra at BBC Proms in the Park.
Phoebe White. At 22 years of age, Phoebe White has already embarked on an exciting career. After recently completing her bachelor’s degree, studying with Mauricio Fuks at the Jacobs School of Music in Indiana, she has been offered a place to study under Carolin Widmann at the Hochschule for Music and Theatre Leipzig. She has performed as a soloist with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, Tallin Chamber Orchestra, and Midlands Youth Orchestra of Ireland. An avid chamber musician, Phoebe has performed at the Ortús Chamber Music Festival and the West Cork Chamber Music Festival.
